Richard J. Rudden
Artist’s Statement

I am a Florida artist based in Altamonte Springs. I create mosaics, hand painted tile art and block printing. I use colorful pieces to create mosaic murals, portraits, tables, free standing art and pools.
All tiles are kiln-fired, and are suitable for indoor and outdoor applications. A rich mix of hand-made clay elements, vitreous glass, and hand-painted ceramic tiles create a tactile experience of color, content and texture.
My tiles and hand-made clay elements are painted with glazes, or underglaze and fired at approximately 1,875 degrees F. High fired clay bodies and glazes are used when appropriate for high wear and cold weather conditions. All tiles used in my mosaics are glazed in my studio. No commercial tiles are used. All projects are created in my studio and installed on the job site. Properly installed mosaics will last for centuries.
I have years of experience facilitating large-scale public art projects in Florida. I am honored to work with other artists, and privileged to teach both adults and children. I love what I do, and I love to share it with others. It is an exciting process, and all who participate benefit from the experience.
You can see some of of my work locally, a 9’ portrait of William Shakespeare at the Orlando Shakespeare Theatre. Also 9 pieces of the Artisan Park logo at the new addition of Celebration, Florida. A 7’ high mosaic lizard named, Leoguana da Vinci at the Orlando International Airport.
